CLMN | Cats & dogs

I am a dog person. I love dogs! These animals amazed me every day when I used to live with my parents, where we had two of them. Big dogs..big friends. I remember these animals could read my mind many times. They came up and took me for a walk. They sat next to me in silence and looked at the floating river. They swam with me and they trusted me… like probably no one on this earth will ever do.

These dogs took a human as their guide through life, someone they could rely on. Some people say that dogs are stupid just because they are so loyal and obedient. But that’s far from truth. Being next to the human in a dog way is just a reflection of big love that these animals feel for people. People, who sometimes not even deserve it, but I’m not gonna talk about this in this column.

So dogs are the part of my life which, I must admit, is missing here in Eindhoven. Rushing through days as we do here stops me from picking up a puppy and raising a friend for life. With this tempo alone, I probably won’t manage to give that friend all that he deserves.

But through these four years that I live here I got so thirsty for an animal in my house, that today I have two CATS running in my apartment. Pff.. I said it - I own two cats. And, trust me I never thought this would happen to me. Cats are amazing animals, but I never really understood them. And although I if I had to be an animal I would chose to be a cat, it’s a very unusual housemate to have. At least for a dog person. I write this and smile, because I see that these two inmates I share the apartment with, won’t ever be dogs. They won’t listen to me, they will be extremely crazy at nights and sleepy during the days, but at the end, cats fill up my day with vivid presence of animal and I am hundred percent sure they make me more happy!

..especially when I dream of the day, when this cat gang will get introduced to a ‘boerboel’ or some other big puppy. And we all will live happily ever after...
