CLMN | Life on the banks of the Dommel
So, Eindhoven is full of festivals and other great events. That’s so true, that every time I have to tell something interesting about the city I live in, it’s like two times two equals four.
Moreover one can always find the best time in each season to have foreign guests over. I mean, you can invite your friends or family and while you’re sweating at work they have great fun visiting the Dutch Design Week or other events in town or around.
Last weekend alone we had two great festivals kicking off. Well, one of them was only here for just one day. That’s the Cross Linx festival, held at the Philips Muziek Gebouw. But the STRP festival in Strijp S will be on for full 10 days (till the 10th of March). Ten days of Art and Technology in our tiny city. Yes, and then these ‘Amsterdammers’ friends of mine say: ‘oh, why should we come to your village?’. Why why? Because it is not a village, but a rather cozy , active and intellectual middle size town!
On June 1st and 2nd we have another surprise coming up in our cozy and intellectual town - that’s the music festival on the banks of the Dommel (Music on the Dommel/Muziek op de Dommel). If you have never heard about it: it’s the event where one can listen to live classical music. Saturday through Sunday in a good weather orchestras and various artists from around the area are performing on the stages build in the Dommel and around the Van Abbemuseum.
This event is so special not only because it’s alive and interesting, but also because -due to low budget- it is basically dependent on a group of volunteers who with their good will help out the festival organization to carry out the music feast! I love this event too, because it’s alternative to the alternative events in Eindhoven, which I visit almost every weekend. Muziek op de Dommel is different and so green because it’s held during the first days of summer. And the time spent there definitely helps one to expand their mindset and learn something new. So I’d like to invite you all to join, either come and volunteer, because everyone is welcome and everyone can do that, or just come and visit the festival, which will turn out to be great fun.
